Tottenham injury update: Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Richarlison latest news and return dates
Tottenham have two new injury concerns as they prepare to face Galatasaray in the Europa League.
Spurs knocked Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday before staging a stunning turnaround in the second half to thrash Aston Villa 4-1 in the Premier League on Sunday.
It means Ange Postecoglou’s side are just two points off the top four and represented a huge change in fortune after the disappointment of the defeat at Crystal Palace.
Still, such triumphs may have come at a cost as Cristian Romero and Richarlison were forced off against Villa.
The fitness issues appear to be mounting, so here’s a look at the latest Tottenham injuries…
Cristian Romero
Cristian Romero was forced off during the win over Villa after appearing to hurt himself when challenging Morgan Rogers.
After the game, Postecoglou revealed: “Romero yeah, it was in that challenge again. He felt his foot was sore. I don't have any sort of further information. obviously, he's a pretty tough cookie for him to come off, it must be sore, but yeah, look it's not ideal.”
Spurs are assessing the Argentine this week, but reports from the player’s homeland claim Romero faces a week or so out with damage to his right toe. That would rule him out of the games against Galatasaray and Ipswich before international break begins next week.
Potential return date: Late November
Micky van de Ven
Romero’s defensive partner in Micky van de Ven came off in tears during the win over City.
The Spurs boss revealed the Dutchman has avoided serious injury but still isn’t expected back before the international break later this month.
“He has strained a hamstring,” said Postecoglou before the Villa game. “It is not too serious, but probably after the international break for him.”
Potential return date: Early December 2024
Richarlison
Forward Richarlison has endured an injury-hit campaign thus far and sustained a fresh knock when setting up Dominic Solanke’s second goal against Villa, having come on as a substitute in the first place.
Spurs are assessing the striker this week. but Richarlison, addressing the injury on social media, was downbeat on a prognosis. He wrote: “It’s a difficult moment, again. I was very happy working hard and playing, but now I am injured again”.
“It’s difficult to say what I’m feeling in this moment, just pray for me… I hope God will protect me.”
Potential return date: December 2024
Wilson Odobert
The 19-year-old winger returned after a month out with a hamstring injury against AZ in late October, but has suffered a serious setback according to Postecoglou.
“The only other one missing out which is a bit of a disappointment is Wilson, who has had a setback during the week and it seems like it is a serious one so we're just waiting for more information,” he said last week. “It's not exactly the same [injury] but the same area.”
Odobert, who joined from Burnley in the summer for £25 million, has made just five appearances for his new side.
Potential return date: Unknown
Djed Spence
The right-back recently signed a new contract at the club, but has been hampered of late by a groin strain suffered in training.
“Getting closer so we're hoping next week [he will] join back in training,” said Postecoglou before the right-back missed the wins over City and Aston Villa.
Potential return date: Unknown
