Tottenham Hotspur have ‘hit a stumbling block’ in their talks with former Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, according to a report.

The Premier League club relieved Antonio Conte of his duties at the end of March and put his assistant boss, Cristian Stellini, in interim charge.

Stellini only lasted a grand total of four matches in charge and was dismissed following the shambolic 6-1 defeat at Newcastle United on April 23.

With Ryan Mason back in charge for his second spell as the club’s caretaker manager, Tottenham came extremely close to completing an astonishing comeback from 3-0 down at Liverpool, only to concede seconds after their late equaliser.

While the 31-year-old takes charge of the north Londoners’ until the end of the campaign, Daniel Levy is on the search for Conte’s long-term replacement.

Nagelsmann would be an ambitious appointment and is arguably the best available manager at this moment in time.

The German boss was also linked with the Chelsea job before pulling out of the race last month. Ex-Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is now expected to join the Blues.

It was reported by The Telegraph last week that Spurs’ talks with Nagelsmann have hit a ‘huge obstacle’ due to his wage demands.

And the same outlet have now added another hurdle to the mix, in what Spurs fans will see as a typical blow in what is proving to be a difficult managerial search.

The ‘uncertainty’ about the sporting director job at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has cast doubt over the club’s pursuit of the 35-year-old.

‘A huge part of his decision’ is based on ‘knowing who will be leading recruitment and strategy’.

Spurs recently lost their managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, who left after losing his appeal against a 30-month Italian Football Federation (FIGC) ban on certain football related activities during his time at Juventus, which FIFA ruled to extend worldwide.

Daniel Levy certainly has his hands full at this moment in time as he searches for Paratici and Conte’s replacement. He is doing all of this whilst under a huge amount of pressure from angry Spurs fans.

It is noted that Levy has had Nagelsmann on his ‘radar’ for a long time – before he joined Bayern Munich in July 2021.

Another ‘potential issue’ is the wage budget he will be allowed in north London with Nagelsmann expected to pursue players earning ‘above Spurs’ expectations’.

Another option for Spurs is Feyenoord boss Arne Slot – who is defying the odds to lead the Eredivisie and was minutes away from taking his side to the Europa League semi-finals with a win over Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma, only to concede late on to Paulo Dybala before losing after extra-time.

Another on Levy’s ‘radar’ is former Chelsea boss Graham Potter – who would be another name in the long list of ex-Blues managers to join Spurs.

The managerial uncertainty this season has greatly hindered Spurs’ bid to qualify for the Champions League.

Being out of that competition and potentially losing Harry Kane could make the role a poisoned chalice for whoever is brave enough to take it on.

Following yet another blow in the club’s pursuit of Nagelsmann, you get the impression that he is going to do what he did to Chelsea and turn them down pretty soon.
