Tottenham are reportedly weighing up whether to sign Wojciech Szczesny, having been offered the chance to sign the former Arsenal goalkeeper.
It’s no secret that Spurs are in the market for a goalkeeper as Hugo Lloris’ time at the club seems to be coming to an end.
The veteran goalkeeper has made over 400 appearances for Spurs. He has been their first-choice goalkeeper since his arrival in 2012/13, but Antonio Conte is keen on a new shot-stopper.
Lloris has come under fire for his form during this season. The 35-year-old has a deal with Spurs which runs until the summer of 2024.
In the Premier League they have conceded 21 goals this season. Conte’s side started the season well, but hit an inconsistent patch before the international break.
They have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last eight matches and Lloris has come under fire for his form.
The French goalkeeper is currently at the World Cup and started in France’s opener against Australia. Lloris will be hoping to have a successful campaign to perhaps put himself in the shop window before a potential move.
Wojciech Szczesny on the cards
Reports have claimed that Juventus goalkeeper Szczesny has been offered to Spurs as a potential replacement for the outgoing Lloris.
Per 90min, ‘Tottenham have been offered Szczesny’ and that the ‘North London club have not completely ruled out the idea of signing the ex-Arsenal man’.
Given his links to arch-rivals Arsenal, this would be quite a controversial move for Spurs. With that being said, Szczesny wouldn’t be the first player to have played for both North London clubs.
Szczesny himself is currently at the World Cup with Poland and is still an important player for Juventus.
In Serie A he has started in nine matches this season and was only taken out of the side due to injury.
Since moving to Juventus in 2017-18, the Polish goalkeeper has made 190 appearances for the club in all competitions.
Spurs have other targets
Along with Szczesny, Spurs are keeping their eye on several other goalkeepers in a bid to find a long-term replacement for Lloris.
Pickford, Sanchez and Meslier would be younger alternatives that Spurs could look into. All three goalkeepers also have Premier League experience and are comfortable with the ball at their feet.
Sanchez and Pickford are each at the World Cup and could put themselves in the shop window with a good tournament.
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the Everton goalkeeper as his deal at Goodison Park expires in 2024.
Spurs might look to strike a bargain for him or persist with a move for Szczesny instead.
