Tottenham have been backed to complete a move for a Serie A right-back who will give Antonio Conte a significant upgrade in the position.
The Spurs boss has been strongly tipped to bring in a new right wing-back in January after growing frustrated with the trio of options at his current disposal.
Emerson Royal is the Italian’s first-choice but has struggled to produce consistently in the first part of the season.
Matt Doherty has impressed at tiime as back up, while summer signing Dked Spence has not even been given the opportunity to show what he can do.
To that end, there could be a new arrival in the position and Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries is the man Conte wants.
The Netherlands defender is currently with his country in Qatar at the World Cup and started their opening win over Senegal.
Calciomercato claims that Spurs and London rivals Chelsea both want the player. Meanwhile, a report from Corriere dello Sport claims that Inter are ready to cash in on the player at £26million.
Dumfries perfect for Conte role
And former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson hopes his old club act on that news.
He told Football Insider: “After the Euros, I was adamant he would be coming to the Premier League. He was heavily linked with Everton at the time. I have to say I was very surprised that he did not come to the Premier League after that tournament.
“I have watched him very closely. He is brilliant. He is athletic and has great ability going forward but he can also defend.
“The way Conte wants to play, he would be perfect. I would love to see him at Tottenham.”
Dumfries is arguably a more balanced player than Tottenham currently have a right wing-back. He is able to get forward and support attacks but also quick enough to get back and is solid defensively.
And if that £26m price tag is anything close to being correct then Dumfries would be an absolute bargain.
Tottenham are not back in action until Boxing Day when they head to Brentford in the Premier League.
