Torrential Rainfall Renders Roadways 'Impassable' in Charlotte

Heavy rainfall caused roadways in Charlotte, North Carolina, to flood on Thursday morning, November 12, stranding vehicles and making some streets completely “impassable,” local reports said.

Shane McDevitt shared this footage of Interstate 277 on Thursday morning. The persistent rain also overflowed the South Yadkin River, flooding a campground in Hiddenite and spurring more than 20 water rescues, according to the Mooresville Fire Department.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Cabarrus, Gaston, and Mecklenburg counties. Officials sent an alert warning residents of the “dangerous and life-threatening” flooding and discouraged any attempt at travel in the affected areas. Credit: Shane McDevitt via Storyful
