The Toronto Home Where Meghan Markle Lived While Dating Prince Harry Is For Sale
Markle added her own California-inspired touches to the property.
Meghan Markle's former home in Toronto has been put up for sale, according to the Daily Mail.
The actor rented the three-bedroom home in Toronto's Seaton Village for "at least" two years while she was in the Canadian city filming Suits. According to the listing, the home features a "Tiffany" blue front door, a "spacious, stylized living space," three bedrooms, two "spa-inspired" bathrooms, and a chef's kitchen. It also features secluded backyard, where Markle is said to have hosted barbecues for her friends and kept a kennel for her two rescue dogs, Bogart and Guy.
This is the second time the property has been on the market since Markle's time there. It sold for $1.6 million in 2018 and is now listed at $1.9 million (CAD).
Markle lived in the property when she met and fell in love with Prince Harry in 2016. While living in the property, the Califorinian tried to bring in some West Coast influences. As she revealed in a Vanity Fair interview in 2017, she exposed the hardwood floors and let in as much natural light as possible.
When she first moved to Toronto from California, she loved the city. "[Toronto] is like my home," she said to Best Health in 2016. "At the onset, I didn’t know what to expect, but everyone has been so welcoming. The people are so kind, I love the food scene, and I really love exploring little nooks around the city with my two dogs."
However, as Markle later confided in the 2022 Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, her Toronto life became unmanageable when rumors began to spread about her relationship with Harry and her home was targeted by the British paparazzi.
“It felt like all of the UK media descended upon Toronto,” she said in the documentary.
She described how her neighbors texted her saying, "They’re knocking on everyone’s door, they are trying to find you." She even claimed that some neighbors had been paid to film her backyard.
She added, “My house was just surrounded. Just men sitting in their cars all the time waiting for me to do anything."
Markle claimed that the police in Toronto were unable to help her. “I would say to the police, ‘If any other woman in Toronto said to you I have six grown men who are sleeping in their cars around my house who follow me everywhere that I go and I feel scared, wouldn’t you say that it was stalking?'” she said. “And they said, 'Yes but there’s really nothing we can do because of who you’re dating.'"
Markle left the home in 2017 when she moved to London in order to be closer to Harry. The pair became engaged later that year and married in 2018. In 2020, the pair stepped back from their royal duties and moved to America.
Having left royal life behind, the couple now live in a Montecito mansion, a home that offers a more peaceful existence for Markle. “We did everything we could to get this house," she told The Cut of their new home in 2022. “Because you walk in and go… Joy. And exhale. And calm. It’s healing. You feel free.”
