Tornado-Warned Storm Leaves Damage Across Washington

A tornado-warned storm caused damage across the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area on Thursday, July 1, footage taken on Friday shows.

This video, filmed by Maureen Cohen Harrington, shows a split tree near the National Mall in Washington. “Trees and branches are strewn across the National Mall,” she wrote in a tweet. “Birds seem to be searching for lost nests or loved ones.”

The National Weather Service (NWS) expected thunderstorms to continue through Friday. Although severe storms were not in the forecast, residual flooding remained a possibility across southern Maryland, the NWS said. Credit: Maureen Cohen Harrington via Storyful
