Tornado rips through Canadian town

Smashed-up cars and piles of lumber where homes once stood:

This is the aftermath of a tornado that ripped through Barrie, Ontario on Thursday.

The storm uprooted trees and left neighborhoods littered with debris.

Drone footage captured the tornado's trail of destruction across the Canadian town.

Several people were injured in the disaster - with some taken to hospital.

Local media reported more than two dozen buildings were damaged.

And showed residents trying to recover their belongings.

"My buddy's house is right behind here. It was getting rough, he was laying in his bed and he says I'll go check on my boat. And he came home and his house is totaled, roof ripped off, trailer in the neighbor's driveway," one resident said.

Authorities had issued tornado warnings across the region before the storm touched down in the afternoon.
