These Are the Top 6 Jewelry Trends for Fall 2024
It's time to get playful.
Unlike other accessories on the runway, jewelry has the unique power to either completely transform a look or blend seamlessly into your outfit. The fall lineups gave us a blend of both "icing on the cake" jewelry and "best supporting" pieces. Jewelry ranged from fun and winky to elegant and edgy, giving us plenty of styles to work within our own wardrobes.
While jewelry tended to be minimal on the runway there were some impressive pieces to look forward to incorporating into our fall looks. From unexpected charms to classic pieces given a modern twist, jewelry trends for the upcoming fall season promise to bring whimsy and shiny delight to our wardrobes. Of the standout pieces, large earrings are back in a big way, while playful designs toe the line between subtle and dramatic.
Ahead, the top six jewelry trends for fall you’ll need to add to your collection.
Pin It To Me
Never underestimate the power of a brooch to really add that finishing touch to your look. The fall runways saw plenty of iterations in delicate flowers, from delicate versions at Tory Burch and Miu Miu to large blooms at Marc Jacobs. Brandon Maxwell added amorphous gold and silver collar pins, a close cousin to the brooch, to his blouses bringing touches of shimmer to an otherwise subdued collection. And that’s the beauty of a brooch: it has the ability to add sparkle and charm to a soft and quiet look.
Grown-Up Chokers
This season saw many iterations of the choker, solidifying the piece as a wardrobe staple. You could argue chokers never really fell out of style—they just received the glow-up treatment. Depending on your own personal style, you can find a choker from the fall runways to match. Hermès introduced a soft leather choker with a small barrel piece at the center, while Chanel kept it classic with interlocking gold rings and Y/Project brought the punk with a skinny belt choker complete in a pale pink.
Charmed I’m Sure
Bag charms have made a resurgence as a way to personalize handbags and show off our personal style. The charms have also made their way to jewelry on many of the runways this fall, ranging from cheeky-like offerings at Coach to dark and brooding at Ann Demeulemeester. Balmain and Chloé both chose to take everyday classic pieces and turn them into minuscule objects to adorn necklaces and earrings. Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood went edgy and maximalist with the charms giving the feel of found objects turned into jewelry pieces. The playfulness of the charm jewelry trend stands out against the suiting style that have walked the runways for the past few seasons giving us all permission to have fun.
Keep It Fruity
Food as fashion seems to be everywhere and fall jewelry was no exception. Many collections featured delightful giant fruit charms and even cornucopias of clustered fruit. Balmain paid homage to the brand's Bordeux roots with pieces in the shape of grapes, strawberries, and snail shells. Over at Chloé, there were subtle brass charms of pineapples and bananas adorning a bib necklace, while Tory Burch gave earrings the fruit basket treatment with a cluster of fruits in an ear cuff.
Claws Are Out
Earrings reminiscent of talons were seen in numerous collections for fall. Equal parts edgy and refined, talons on display gave us fashionable punk. Tory Burch showed colorful glass talon shaped earrings that seemed to be piercing through the models' earlobes, while a more twisted and ornate talon earring was on the runway at Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood. Leave it to Ulla Johnson and Givenchy to give us sleek and modern interpretations of the shape for a luxe but still edgy earring.
Go For Bold
Step aside small delicate jewelry. It’s time for unpolished and bold statement barrel rings and cuffs to make their way into to our jewelry boxes. Fall runways saw many iterations of the sleek but broad rings and cuffs reminiscent of a gun barrel, but with much less menace. The jewelry pieces were understated in design yet not so subtle as to go unnoticed. Gucci and Alaïa brought glossy multi barrel rings and cuffs to match their collections, while Sportmax took a darker approach with matte misshaped rings on multiple fingers. Hermès kept it traditional with their luxe leather-wrapped rings for those who want a classic and unfussy piece.
