Tom Hanks might reunite with "Forrest Gump" director for "Pinocchio"

6 Aug – Earlier this year, it was reported that Robert Zemeckis has signed on to helm Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of "Pinocchio".
The project is shaping up to be a reunion of sorts for Zemeckis and one of his long-time collaborators, Tom Hanks, who has now expressed his interest to join as Geppetto.
Deadline reported that Hanks is now in early talks to play the fatherly figure, having reached out to Zemeckis regarding taking up the role after reading the script. The actor has always been Disney's choice to play Geppetto, even back when Paul King ("Paddington 2") was originally attached to direct.
Now that Zemeckis is the one helming, the likelihood of Hanks joining is higher since the two of them have previously worked together on the Oscar-winning "Forrest Gump" (1994), as well as "Cast Away" (2000) and "The Polar Express" (2004).
Apart from directing, Zemeckis is also writing the script, based on Disney's 1940 animated film of the same name and Italian writer Carlo Collodi's 1883 children's book "The Adventures of Pinocchio".
It'll be a while before production on "Pinocchio" begins. Hanks in the meantime is gearing up to resume production on the biopic "Elvis Presley", possibly sometime this fall in Australia. It was previously halted when Hanks and wife, actress Rita Wilson, tested positive for COVID-19.
