Tom Hanks Jokingly Calls Movie Critics ‘C**ksuckers’ While Defending 1 Of His Films
Tom Hanks is unleashing his opinions on movie critics and commentators.
While recently appearing on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast, the Oscar winner, 68, had harsh words while reflecting on a particular critic who initially despised his 1996 directorial debut of “That Thing You Do!” but later changed their mind.
“Let me tell you something about these cocksuckers who write about movies. Can I say that?” Hanks said to host O’Brien after the comedian brought up how the musical is now considered a cult classic.
Recalling the words of the critic, the California-born actor explained, “Somebody who wrote about [‘That Thing You Do!’ wrote] that ‘Tom Hanks has to stop hanging around on with veterans of TV because this is just like it’s shot on TV, and it’s not much of anything.’”
The “Here” actor said that the same critic had to eat their words years later.
“That same person then wrote about the cult classic ‘That Thing You Do!’ Same exact person,” he continued. “All you need is 20 years between now and then, and it ends up speaking somewhere.”
While Hanks was seemingly joking, the term “cocksucker” has been deemed an anti-gay term by members of the LGBTQ+ community, including CNN host Anderson Cooper, who slammed the usage of the term during an interview with Howard Stern in 2014.
The “Toy Story” alum doesn’t appear to take the criticisms personally as he added, “But that’s the thing we all signed up for [as actors]. That’s the carnival, that’s the contest. I got faith in that. That’s OK.”
