Tom Cruise's movie shot in space takes huge step forward

From Digital Spy

Earlier this month, it was reported that Mission: Impossible star Tom Cruise was planning to shoot a movie in space and now it appears he's found a director who will boldly go with him.

Deadline reports that Doug Liman, who directed Cruise in the movies American Made and Edge of Tomorrow, is planning to re-team with the actor for the project.

According to the report, the actor and the director came up with the idea for the space movie together, with Liman writing the first draft of the screenplay and producing along with Cruise.

Very few details have been revealed about the project so far, but Cruise is said to be working alongside Elon Musk's Space X and NASA.

It's also been reported that the film will not be a part of the Mission: Impossible franchise and there's no studio attached to it yet.

Meanwhile, with worldwide film production currently on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, Mission: Impossible 7 and 8 have both been delayed after M:I7 became one of the first films to postpone production when it stopped filming in Venice back in February.

Mission: Impossible 7 is now scheduled for release on November 19, 2021, with Mission: Impossible 8 following on November 4, 2022.

Cruise will next be starring in Top Gun: Maverick, the sequel to the classic 1986 film Top Gun, which has also had its release date delayed from June 2020 to December 23, 2020.
