Confederation of African Football president Ahmad Ahmad's five-year ban from football has been reduced to two years, the Court of Arbitration for Sport said on Monday, ending his hopes of re-election this week. The ruling clears the way for South African billionaire Patrice Motsepe to replace him and become the organisation's eighth president in its 63-year history. Ahmad was banned from football for five years by FIFA in November and fined 200,000 Swiss francs after an ethics investigation by world soccer's governing body, which found the 61-year-old guilty of offering and accepting gifts and other benefits as well as of misappropriation of funds.

It is perhaps the world capital of vending machines. Now Japan's many automated vendors have a new product to offer: virus testing kits. A clinic has so far set up seven of the machines in the Tokyo area. They sell kits for about 40 dollars. This student stumbled on one outside a noodle shop.I was surprised to find one at a restaurant, not a drugstore, she says. The machines may meet a need. Japan's government has been conducting just 40,000 of the so-called PCR tests each day. That's a quarter of capacity, with the tests restricted to those who are most symptomatic or at high risk. The general public has been left heavily reliant on private clinics, or buying PCR tests by other means. Hideaki Takemura is director of the Laketown Takenoko clinic which set up the machines. "As a way to avoid crowded gatherings, to get tests easily without appointments, I came up with the vending machine idea, and I thought it would be very useful if we could put them everywhere in a town."Takemura says there was huge demand at first, with some machines needing to be emptied of money twice a day. That demand now shows signs of easing, as a state of emergency helps cut cases in Tokyo.
Thousands of Rangers fans gathered at the club's stadium, training ground and George Square in Glasgow's city centre in violation of COVID-19 lockdown rules as they celebrated the team's 55th league crown. Many fans let off flares while some of them were guilty of disorderly conduct, assaulting police officers and "sectarian related breach of the peace", police said. The gatherings were met with anger by the general public, with Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon saying fans risked the country's progress in containing the novel coronavirus and described the scenes as "infuriating and disgraceful."

Several hundred people gathered outside the courthouse waving flags and chanting "Free Sonko" on Monday morning before beginning to march.
The European Union is preparing to widen its sanctions on Myanmar's armed forces to target businesses they run, in protest at the Feb. 1 military coup, according to diplomats and two internal documents seen by Reuters. The measures, which diplomats said could be agreed by EU foreign ministers on March 22, would target companies "generating revenue for, or providing financial support to, the Myanmar Armed Forces", said one of the documents dated March 5. While the bloc has an arms embargo on Myanmar, and has targeted some senior military officials since 2018, the measures would be its most significant response so far since the coup.
On stage, front and center, Indian women led protests in Delhi on Monday for International Women's Day.Women tattooed their hands with henna, reading 'farmer unity' and 'long live the revolution'. They demanded the scrapping of new laws that open up agriculture produce markets to private buyers. Activist Sudesh Goyat said the protests were not just about improving the rights of farmers, but the first time that women from rural areas were able to showcase and highlight the contribution of female farmers:“This shows women have power. Women who work as labourers or who are from an agricultural background and even women from military households have power… this maternal force has awakened for their rights. This protest will change history. “Since December, many farmers accompanied by their families have camped at three sites on the outskirts of Delhi. They fear the reforms will leave them at the mercy of big corporate buyers and end the practice of assured government purchases. But the government says the reforms will bring private investment into a vast and neglected farm sector, improve supply chains and cut colossal waste.Faced with the protests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government offered to suspend the laws for 18 months, but the farmers have refused to back down. They say they won’t give in until their demands are met.

Johnson is a two year old ringneck parrot who lives in a loving home in India. He has free range of the house and enjoys his flights and free time. But one of his favourite things to do on a sunny day is to spend time eating sunflower seeds on the patio. For his safety, he is kept protected in a cage as he sings and whistles and calls to the other birds. Johnsonès voice has reached the trees around his home and has attracted wild parrots to see what is happening. Each day, they have ventured closer and eventually they began perching on his cage and peeking at him through the bars. They rub his beak with theirs and seem to be inviting him out to play. Johnson is a very polite bird and he happily entertains his guests and shows them hospitality by passing them sunflower seeds through the bars. They eagerly take the seeds as fast as he shares them. The parrots have come to see Johnson for months now, always at the same time in the morning. After exchanging pleasantries and some snacks, the parrots fly off to the trees and continue their day. Johnson chirps and calls out happily. Johnson also speaks and it seems that he is trying to engage them in human conversation at times. He has shown off his impressive vocabulary and one of his friends has tried to repeat a few words. Johnson speaks Punjabi, which is very fitting for an Indian gentlemen such as himself. Imagine seeing your parrot making friends, sharing snacks, and engaging in conversation with new friends. This is very similar to watching our children as they interact on the playground at a new school!
