COVID-19 | Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Mustapa Mohamed has tested positive for Covid-19.
According to a statement issued by his office, the minister in charge of the economy had arrived in Kota Baru, Kelantan, yesterday morning, took a swab test and was confirmed positive later that night.
"He was admitted to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital at 10.30pm yesterday for monitoring, and his condition remains stable," it said.
It added that Mustapa had previously tested negative for Covid-19 on Jan 1.
"Mustapa apologises over any inconveniences that arise from this situation and hopes all parties pray for Allah to ease our difficulties," the statement said.
An aide to Mustapa told Malaysiakini the Jeli MP had returned to Kelantan yesterday for a routine visit to his constituency.
According to his official Facebook page, Mustapa was also in Kelantan on Jan 3 for various project site visits.
The next day, the minister had an audience with Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah on the status of the 12th Malaysia Plan and the Economic Action Council's achievements.
According to Istana Negara's official Facebook page, three government officers from the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) were also present during the meeting.
As of Friday, Mustapa's Facebook also indicated that over the past week he attended a large scale ministry function to discuss the EPU's 2021 goals, as well as met with Health Minister Dr Adham Baba on strategies to manage the Covid-19 pandemic while reviving the economy.
