Tobias Menzies Chases Down Abraham Lincoln’s Killer in Manhunt Trailer — Watch
“I’m gonna be the most famous man in the whole world,” John Wilkes Booth tells us at the start of Apple TV+’s Manhunt trailer, and… you’re not wrong, buddy!
Based on James Swanson’s 2007 book Manhunt: The 12-Day Search for Lincoln’s Killer, the limited series stars Tobias Menzies (Outlander, The Crown) as Edwin Stanton, Abraham Lincoln’s friend and war secretary, who made it his mission to catch Booth after he assassinated the 16th United States president.

Apple TV+ released the trailer as part of the streamer’s presentation at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
The project’s official logline reads: “Part historical fiction, part conspiracy thriller, Manhunt will take audiences into the aftermath of the first American presidential assassination and the fight to preserve and protect the ideals that were the foundation of Lincoln’s Reconstruction plans — issues that reverberate into the present day… The series strongly features Black historical figures whose lives intertwined with the escape, manhunt and subsequent high-crimes investigation, including Mary Simms, a former slave of the doctor who treated Booth’s injury and gave him safe harbor after his crime.”
Manhunt will begin streaming its first two episodes on Friday, March 15, and continue with one episode each Friday through April 19.
Produced by Apple Studios and co-produced by Lionsgate, the limited series is created by Monica Beletsky (Fargo, The Leftovers). Beletsky also will serve as showrunner and will executive-produce alongside director Carl Franklin (Mindhunter). Additional EPs include Swanson, Layne Eskridge, Michael Rotenberg and Richard Abate for 3 Arts Entertainment, and Frank Smith and Naia Cucukov for Walden Media.
