Tire Fires Lit in Gaza Amid Surge in Israeli-Palestinian Tensions

Footage showed demonstrators setting tires alight in Gaza’s east over the night of 26-27 February, amid a violent flare up in Israeli-Palestinian tensions.

Such demonstrations are often colloquially reported as “night confusion” protests, as they aim to disturb nearby Israeli settlers.

On Sunday, Israeli and Palestinian officials agreed to work to deescalate tensions during talks in Jordan, in a bid to end the surge in violence, the BBC reported.

The British broadcaster reported that the talks ended with the parties releasing a joint statement that saw Israel commit to “stop discussing new settlement building for four months.”
