Tiny Pretty Things on Netflix – Who the killer could be
Tiny Pretty Things spoiler follow.
The first season of Netflix's wild ballet thriller Tiny Pretty Things ended just as it began: with a big question.
Who killed Ramon Costa?
The ballet instructor had been stabbed to death in one of the dance studios, in turn setting up the currently unconfirmed second season.
Ramon ruffled more than a few feathers across the ten episodes, which makes predicting whodunnit virtually impossible. But God loves a trier, so we're going to give it a shot.
June
Every time June was on the cusp of taking centre stage, Ramon whipped it away from her and gave her solos to other dancers, which would send her spiralling.
Prone to fits of high emotion, could Ramon's cruelty finally have broken June?
She had previously drugged Cassie, which is evidence that she isn't afraid to go to the darkest of places.
Caleb
Damon J Gillespie, who plays Caleb, told Digital Spy that he thinks his own character could be responsible. Considering that Celeb knew Monique was also sexually involved with Ramon, he's a strong contender.
"After the ballet opens, Caleb is really, really furious and you see that throughout the entire episode," he said. "There's a moment where he cannot not look at Ramon, and [there's] everything that he's done.
"And then, at the end of that episode, he says, 'I've already settled one score tonight.' And in my head I'm going, 'He killed somebody.'"
Maricel, June's mum
Gillespie also told us that he wouldn't be surprised if Maricel squeezed the lifeblood out of the choreographer.
We found out that Ramon is June's father, and Maricel warned him to keep that information to himself.
"Tell anyone about this, I'll kill you," she said.
Ramon responded: "Except as you may recall, I'm not in the habit of holding my tongue."
Plus, Ramon had passed their daughter over for another major opportunity, which Maricel was clearly angry about.
Bette
Bette didn't push Cassie, but she might have offed Ramon.
"We know who we are, what we're capable of," she said to Cassie in episode ten. "And we'll come for anyone who tries to tear us apart."
Shortly after, Ramon was found dead.
His toxic behaviour had driven a wedge between the dancers countless times, and perhaps Bette, who had been subjected to a near-constant stream of his spiteful behaviour, had decided to take action.
She had also taken the fall for pushing Cassie, despite the fact that her sister was the guilty party, and wasn't in a particularly stable place emotionally. Did she do it this time?
Neveah
When Ramon's body was found, Neveah was already there, alongside June and Bette. The the three of them could have teamed up to end his reign of malice together, or Neveah could have gone it alone.
We know that she was hellbent on cleaning up the murky culture at the Archer, and Ramon was a major contributing factor to that. She never screamed "I'm a killer", but that's what makes her an ideal candidate.
Delia
She'd already shoved Cassie off the ballet school's roof, so what's to stop her plunging a sharp instrument into Ramon's chest? He had been unfaithful to her, after all, and the pair had shared some pretty choice words towards the end of the series.
Sure, it'd be predictable for Delia to be the culprit again, but that's what makes it so unexpected, right?
Cassie
You'd think that after she almost died herself, Cassie wouldn't want to inflict that pain on another. But as we saw, she's not exactly a saint.
Ramon and Cassie had been romantically involved, but he had moved on seamlessly with his life while she was in a coma, which could have motivated her to make him pay.
Nabil
Nabil was distraught when it emerged that Cassie had done the dirty with Ramon. And to make matters worse, she dumped him as soon as she woke up, despite the hours he had spent by her side in hospital.
"What did you say to say to her?" Nabil bellowed at Ramon, who was in the room when Cassie delivered the blow.
It's clear that he blamed the ballet teacher for his broken heart, which could have driven him to silence him once and for all.
Monique
The head of the Archer's reputation was in the gutter at the end of season one.
The abuse of power, which she had participated in, had been exposed and everything that Monique had built was on the verge of being ripped away from her.
She had hit boiling point, and anyone who crossed her was in danger of being subjected to the Dubois wrath. Ramon could have been that person, and considering he had incriminating material on Monique, she could have viewed his murder as a necessary cause of action in covering her tracks.
Topher
Dance teacher Topher despised Ramon from day one.
He was enraged when Sleeping Beauty was scrapped for Ramon's tasteless Ripper ballet, and he often felt that Monique sidelined his opinions and input in favour of Ramon's.
Topher definitely had a temper, too, which makes him a suspect.
But like we said, Ramon was loathed across the board, and any of the above, plus those not even mentioned, could be the killer.
If season two is given the green light, prepare for some big revelations.
