Tin Kai Man cancels plan for Ng Man Tat's memorial service

3 Mar – After previously saying that he will be organising a memorial service for Ng Man Tat specifically for friends in the industry, actor Tin Kai Man is now admitting that he has decided to cancel the well-intentioned plan.

As reported on UDN, the actor, who spoke to the media about the cancellation on 2 March, stated that while all of Ng's celebrity friends wanted to pay their respects in some way, the pandemic situation has yet to stabilise in Hong Kong.

"We were afraid that there would be fans coming in and queueing to pay their respects. This might not be safe and will only increase the risk of everybody getting COVID-19," he said.

Tin also reiterated that Ng's family did not want to have a high-profile funeral for the actor in the first place, and would rather have only several people in attendance when it is held on 7 March at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom.

Asked if Ng's long-time friend and collaborator Stephen Chow will attend the funeral, Tin replied, "I haven't contacted him yet. I will consult him later on whether he can attend," he added.

Ng passed away on 27 February while in treatment for liver cancer. He was 70.
