Timothy Hutton Settles Lawsuit Against Leverage Producers for Cutting Him Out of Revival

Timothy Hutton’s legal battle with the producers of Leverage has come to an end.

A settlement has been reached in Hutton’s breach of contract lawsuit against Leverage producers Electric Entertainment for firing him from the revival Leverage: Redemption.

Terms of the settlement are confidential and still need to be approved by a judge.

Update: Though there had been reports of a monetary payout to Hutton per the settlement, the actor and Electric Entertainment made clear in a joint statement that such claims “are false. Both parties have mutually agreed to dismiss their respective lawsuits filed against each other.”

Hutton starred as heist ringleader Nate Ford in all five seasons of Leverage’s original TNT run. But he was left off the cast list when the series was revived by Amazon as Leverage: Redemption, with the rest of the original cast returning. (Hutton’s character was revealed to have died in the revival’s premiere.) Hutton sued Electric Entertainment in February 2022, alleging that they breached his contract for dropping him from the Leverage revival because he faced a claim of sexual assault. Hutton consistently denied the claim, and police later declined to file charges in the case, citing “a glaring lack of support and proof.”

Electric Entertainment claimed that Hutton “failed to disclose” the allegations against him while in contract talks for the revival, and once they learned of the allegations, “we ceased negotiations with him and chose to move on without him.” Leverage: Redemption premiered in 2021 on Amazon’s Freevee (then called IMDb TV), sans Hutton, with Noah Wyle joining the cast. Season 3 will move to Prime Video and is set to premiere next year.
