The US Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort departed New York City on April 30, a month after it docked at a Manhattan pier to support city hospitals during the coronavirus crisis.
This timelapse video shot on Thursday afternoon shows the ship moving down the Hudson River as it head south to its base in Norfolk, Virginia.
Though it originally was sent to treat only non-COVID-19 patients, by April 6, the boat was receiving New York-area residents infected with the disease.
Still, during its month-long deployment, the Comfort was only lightly used. Outfitted with 1,000 beds, the floating hospital only treated 182 patients through April 26. Credit: Anna Davis Iurtaeva via Storyful
