Timelapse Shows Michigan Floodwater Receding and Heading Downriver

As Michigan Gov Gretchen Whitmer warned of “historic” levels of flooding after two dams in Midland County overflowed, Stacy Maza recorded timelapse footage as the waters from Wixom Lake, near Edenville Dam, started to rise.

“If you watch the ground you’ll see the water going away,” she wrote on Facebook. “Our relief has quickly turned into devastation as we saw how fast the water was leaving for Edenville, Sandford and Midland and so many other places.”

The Detroit News reported that as many as 10,000 people could be affected by flooding caused by the overflow of the Sanford and Edenville dams.

Gov Gretchen Whitmer said during a press conference evacuation orders were in place for Midland, Edenville and Sanford, as well as a number of townships.

She warned residents that downtown Midland “could be under approximately 9 feet of water” by May 20 and that authorities were “anticipating an historic high water level.” Credit: Stacy Maza via Storyful
