Tia Mowry Explains Why She Didn't Tell Twin Tamera About Her New Reality Show
Tia Mowry doesn’t think it’s a big deal that she didn’t tell her twin sister, fellow actor Tamera Mowry-Housley, about the development of her new reality TV show, “Tia Mowry: My Next Act.”
During an interview with The Associated Press last week, Mowry was asked why she didn’t give her sibling a heads-up about her new gig, after Mowry-Housley revealed in May that she’d found out about the show “with the rest of the world.”
“That’s normal,” Mowry responded, before she asked the interviewer, “Do you tell your brother and your sister everything?”
“Well, I do tell them anytime I get a new job, or something of significance,” the interviewer replied.
“You know, it’s something that just happens,” Mowry said. “I found out something about my brother the other day and he didn’t tell me.”
“I think it’s normal, you know, for you not to tell everyone everything,” she later added. “It doesn’t mean anything.”
She continued: “There’s nothing loaded. ... She’s living her life. I’m living my life. We don’t have to tell each other everything. And that’s very normal.”
Many fans of the famous siblings began speculating about the state of their relationship after Mowry was seen discussing their connection in a “first look” clip of her show last month.
In the clip, Mowry was talking about the challenges she’s faced while going through a divorce, such as “being alone,” when she said, “It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close and I could, you know, pick up the phone and call her.”
She added, “But that’s just not where we are right now.”
Fans of the twins, who memorably starred together in the hit ’90s sitcom “Sister, Sister,” were shocked by Mowry’s remarks about their closeness.
The two actors worked on several other projects together over the years, including a reality TV series called “Tia & Tamera,” which premiered in 2011 and ran for three seasons.
Soon after the “first look” clip circulated online, Mowry clarified her comments about their relationship, suggesting that her remarks had been “taken out of context.”
“I feel like as we grow up, we all start our own families and their children need to lean on them,” she told Us Weekly in September. “We begin to take on new roles and responsibilities within our lives.”
The “Family Reunion” actor also said that people tend to be less “accessible” after they start their own families.
“I love my sister very much. She loves me very much,” Mowry said. “We have a closeness and a beautiful connection. But that’s what that was all about. It’s just how life unfolds, and it happens with many families.”
