With 18 teams from across the world currently gathered in Shanghai to compete for the biggest prize of all in Dota 2, all eyes are on this grand dame of esports events.

Two of the 18 teams, Chaos Esports and Ninjas in Pyjamas, did not make it past the Group Stage, while four more have been eliminated in the first day of the Main Stage event at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.

Alliance, Keen Gaming, Fnatic and Natus Vincere all departed on the opening day of the Main Stage (20 August).

Yahoo Esports looks at the results of the remaining teams competing in TI9 right now.

TI9: Main Stage Day 2 Results

Defending champions OG showed just what they were made of as they blitzed Newbee 2-0 in the opening series on Wednesday (21 August), earning themselves a spot in the next round of the upper bracket.

The team, led by Johan "N0tail" Sundstein, handily won against their North American opponents, who now have to face their South American counterparts Infamous, the tournament’s surprise package.

The next series saw Evil Geniuses and Team Secret play some of the best games thus far in the tournament, with EG winning the first game and Team Secret pushing back in the second to win a hard fought match with 29 kills on both sides.

However, EG managed to fend off Clement "Puppey" Ivanov and his team in the last game of the series.

This sets up a mouth-watering (and somewhat awkward) clash with Tal "Fly" Aizik’s former team OG in the next round of the upper bracket, while Team Secret drops to the lower bracket to face Southeast Asian team Mineski.

In what was potentially the upset of the day, Russian team Virtus.pro (VP) lost two straight games in their series against China-based Royal Never Give Up (RNG).

Despite a strong Dota Pro Circuit run, VP didn’t quite get it to click at TI9, and again a Chinese team proved to be their downfall, having lost to PSG.LGD in the upper bracket a day ago.

Team Liquid’s SEA-slaying antics continued as they dumped Philippines team TNC Predator out of TI9 in the final series of the day. The Filipinos were clearly not crowd favourites, having been booed right from the start and and jeered to “go home” by the local audience after losing their first game.

Despite that, TNC pushed the second game hard, but eventually lost out as Amer "Miracle-" Al-Barkawi’s Anti-Mage proved to be their undoing.

Team Liquid would do well to be prepared for their next opponents, RNG, who have already sent another European team (Alliance) out of the tournament.

Main Stage Day 3 preview

Day 3 sees tournament dark horses Infamous take on Newbee in the opening series, while Mineski will face Team Secret in a bid to continue to fly the Southeast Asia flag in TI9 for another round.

The Mercedes-Benz Arena will also surely be packed for an all-Chinese affair as PSG.LGD take on Vici Gaming in the upper bracket, which will be followed by the clash of two tournament favourites, OG and Evil Geniuses.
