POLICE have made an appeal to track down three people after a woman out walking her dog was mowed down and her pet was killed.

In a video released by West Midlands Police, a blue Renault is seen skidding out of control on Doe Bank Lane, Great Barr, Birmingham on Wednesday July 22. It then crashed into the woman and her pet from behind, before careering into undergrowth.

A black Astra, which sped past the dog walker moments earlier, is then seen stopping 30 metres up the road.

Two men and a woman, who police believed were travelling in the Renault, are then seen jogging back from the verge where the woman was struck and into the middle of the road.

At the same time, two men get out of the passenger door of the Astra and look toward the scene as its driver puts the vehicle into reverse.

While the woman, who has not been named, survived and suffered a broken leg, her dog died, police said. She is now recovering at home.

Police are trying to trace occupants of both cars and believe the two groups know each other. A force spokesman said: "We believe the two cars were travelling together and the people are probably friends."
