Thousands of Rescue Workers Leave Istanbul Airport for Earthquake-Affected Regions

Thousands of volunteers passed through Istanbul Airport to travel to earthquake-affected areas in southeastern Turkey, Istanbul’s governor Ali Yerlikaya said on Tuesday, February 7.

Yerlikaya said that as of 6am on Tuesday, more than 12,700 disaster management workers and volunteers had left for affected areas, especially Hatay, a southern Turkish province on the Mediterranean coast.

Footage from inside the airport shows crowds of people with rucksacks and wearing high-vis clothing making their way through the airport.
