Thousands Line Up for Queen's Coffin Vigil in Edinburgh

Around 33,000 people paid their respects to Queen Elizabeth II as she lay in state for 24 hours at St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland, according to local media.

Timelapse video filmed on September 12 shows a long line of mourners waiting into the night for the public viewing of the Queen’s coffin.

The monarch’s coffin left the cathedral on September 13 and was taken by road to Edinburgh Airport before being flown to RAF Northolt, near London, and then onto Buckingham Palace ahead of lying in state at Westminster Hall for four days.

The Queen’s funeral will be held on September 19 with a service at Westminster Abbey, cortege and military procession across London, before a final family ceremony at a chapel in Windsor Castle. Credit: Frank Schuengel via Storyful
