The wizard behind Thor: Ragnarok, Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Jojo Rabbit has been handed the reins to this year's Coca-Cola Christmas advert.

Yes that's right, director Taika Waititi is back behind the camera, only this time he's ready to make us all sob in just two-and-a-half minutes.

The action follows a father who, right before he leaves for an offshore job, is handed a letter to Santa Claus by his young daughter.

Distracted, he never manages to post it, but when he spots a vessel able to transport this special letter to the North Pole, the man speedboats after it... with no luck.

For the next minute or so, the advert sees him doggedly travelling across the planet (climbing huge rocks and trudging through mosquito-heavy jungles along the way) in hope of getting the letter to the Big Man With The White Beard in time.

Discovering that the post office is closed for Christmas, the iconic Coca-Cola truck pulls up and takes the man home.

He then decides to open the letter, which says inside: "Dear Santa, please bring my daddy home for Christmas."

Eventually reunited with his daughter, the pair share a big hug and her Christmas wish is granted.

Only 43 more sleeps to go!
