A brand new image shows the vast scale of a £250m waterpark that its owners are hoping to build in Greater Manchester.

The “next generation” Therme Manchester resort would be home to 25 pools and 30 water slides and would be situated next to the Trafford Centre.

Previously only the designs for the interior were revealed but now the Therme Group have revealed what the building would look like from the outside.

The “rippled waves” design also features a series of waved glass domed pavilions and shrubs and greenery.

Bosses will put forward the new design to Trafford Council planners in the next few weeks, while members of the public will be able to view and comment on the plans before they are considered by the council.

If approved, work on construction will begin later this year and are expected to last around 24 months, with a view to a 2025 opening.

The design has been adjusted from what was initially a single building to one with separate, connected structures containing a natural landscape, while the rood provides an outdoor terrace for customer with views and connection to the Bridgewater Canal.

Three entrances are also now planned so that visitors can enter from different directions.

As well as the indoor slides, the new plans include external waterslides that shoot out of the building and a wellness garden.

Inside guests will also be able to relax in thermal pools and spas, while swim-up bars, saunas and an indoor beach will be available for those wanting a break from the slides.

Stelian Iacob, senior vice president of Therme Group and CEO of Therme Group UK said the waterpark will have a “transformative impact on the city and individuals”.

He added: "The Therme experience is designed around physical and mental wellbeing.

“Human contact with water, steam, fresh air and nature is optimised in an environment that sets itself apart from the pressures of daily metropolitan life.”

Therme Manchester becoming the biggest waterpark in the UK means it will displace the current holder of that title.

Sandcastle Waterpark on Blackpool Promenade is the biggest indoor waterpark in the country, with more than 18 slides and attractions.

Opened in June 1986, Sandcastle Waterpark is home to the world's longest indoor roller-coaster waterslide, the Master Blaster, and the first vertical indoor drop slide, the Sidewinder.

In 2016 the waterpark also regained the world record for the most riders (529) down a waterslide in one hour.
