'Theo, Drop the Knife': Dog Walker Begs Armed Great Pyrenees to Give Up Weapon

A man walking his friends’ dog in Sylvania, Ohio, on September 7, recorded the canine sitting nonchalantly with a knife in its mouth.

Matt Paprocki told Storyful that he was walking Theo the Great Pyrenees for the second time that day when, according to him, the dog “shoved his face into a pile of sticks and branches.”

“I thought he grabbed a stick as usual,” he said. “My eye caught the glint of metal, and it was instant panic.”

Paprocki said that Great Pyrenees are known for not letting go of their findings.

He said: “They need trades for something of greater value to them. I tried trading him for animal crackers, which I always take with me. Didn’t work. Tried a good stick. Didn’t work. My concern was he was going to jump around and play with the knife.”

The video, recorded by Paprocki, shows Theo “calmly sitting” next to the footpath with the blade of a knife poking out of his mouth.

“I took the video to send to his owner, who works around the corner,” he said. “Luckily she saw it, came within a few minutes, and ran into her house to get food to trade. Whipped cream didn’t do it. Salmon did. Theo dropped the knife, and she grabbed it.”

Paprocki, who has been walking the one-year-old canine since his owners brought him home, uploaded the footage to Twitter with the caption: “Somehow I was totally unprepared for this moment.”

He told Storyful: “Now we laugh about it. A little.” Credit: Matt Paprocki via Storyful
