Thai cabin crew switch trade amid coronavirus crisis

A lockdown career change

Location: Bangkok, Thailand

Thawanan Thawornphatworakul was a stewardess

with one of the main Thai airlines

but with air travel at a virtual standstill

she has turned her spare bedroom into a hair salon

(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) 36-YEAR-OLD FORMER CABIN CREW, THAWANAN THAWORNPHATWORAKUL, SAYING:

"The money that I get from cutting hair is incomparable to being a cabin crew. I earn only $4.66 from each customer, but at least it can help support my meal expenses or pay for my electricity bills."

Kosit Rattanasopon also traded his cabin crew uniform

for a food delivery jacket

He now rides through the streets on his motorbike

bringing food to customers all over the city

(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) 37-YEAR-OLD FORMER CABIN CREW AND NOW FOOD DELIVERY DRIVER, KOSIT RATTANASOPON, SAYING:

"I love motorbikes, anyone who rides a motorbike probably understands that riding a bike makes you feel free and less stressed. This is the way for me to cope with stress and gain a little happiness. The stress is still there, but it can be compensated."
