French Open Day 6: Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff and Rafael Nadal all cruise to wins

Round 3 at the French Open had lots of big names on the court Friday, like Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Coco Gauff and the phenomenal Carlos Alcaraz.

Will one of the Big 3 be unexpectedly eliminated? Can Gauff beat a woman twice her age? Will Alcaraz be able to play his best after enduring a four and a half hour match on Wednesday? Read on and find out.

Carlos Alcaraz advances to fourth round of French Open

Carlos Alcaraz didn't show any signs of fatigue during his third-round match against Sebastian Korda. Alcaraz defeated Korda in straight sets (6-4, 6-4, 6-2) to move to the fourth round of the tournament.

There was some concern about Alcaraz's stamina after the 19-year-old played a four-and-a-half-hour match Wednesday. Alcaraz fell behind 2-1 in that match, and had to battle his way back.

He didn't let that happen against Korda, not dropping a single set.

Alcaraz came into the tournament as the No. 6 seed. He will take on Karen Khachanov in the fourth round Monday.

Rafael Nadal dispatches Botic van de Zandschulp in third round

Rafael Nadal made quick work of Botic van de Zandschulp in Round 3 of the French Open on Friday. Nadal defeated van de Zandschulp in straight sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-4) to advance to Round 4.

Nadal, considered the king of clay, did not disappoint in the contest. He's won over 91 percent of his matches on clay.

Nadal did well to finish van de Zandschulp quickly. Nadal's stamina is a concern after he sustained a cracked rib in March. Nadal is also dealing with a chronic foot injury, which played a role in his defeat at the Italian Open in May.

With the win, Nadal will face Felix Auger-Aliassime on Monday.

Novak Djokovic cruises to victory in Round 3

The top-ranked men's singles player had no issues in Round 3 of the French Open on Friday. Novak Djokovic cruised to a win over Aljaž Bedene in the third round of the tournament.

Djokovic did not drop a single set, winning the match 6-3, 6-3 and 6-2.

With the win, Djokovic will take on his first ranked opponent of the tournament. Djokovic will play No. 15 Diego Schwartzman on Monday. Djokovic has yet to drop a set in his first three matches.

Coco Gauff moves into second week of French Open

Experience was not enough for Kaia Kanepi to take down Coco Gauff during the third round of the French Open on Friday. Gauff, 18, was able to defeat Kanepi, 36, in straight sets.

The win extends Gauff's strong start. She has yet to drop a set during her three matches. Gauff entered the tournament as the No. 18 seed. If she keeps performing like this, she'll have a chance to upset some much-higher ranked opponents.

The loss ends Kanepi's solid performance at the French Open. Kanepi made her presence felt early, upsetting No. 10-seed Garbine Muguruza in the first round. Kanepi then defeated Beatriz Haddad Maia in the second round before facing Gauff.

Other notable matches

• Angelique Kerber's French Open run fell short in Round 3. Kerber was defeated by Aliaksandra Sasnovich in straight sets Friday. It was the farthest Kerber has advanced in the French Open since 2018.

• Leylah Fernandez continued her strong French Open run Friday with an upset win over No. 15 seed Belinda Bencic. Fernandez entered the tournament as the No. 17 seed. She needed three sets to take down Bencic. Fernandez will look to continue her run against No. 27 Amanda Anisimova on Monday.

• Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Filip Krajinović in straight sets (7-6, 7-6, 7-5) Friday. Auger-Aliassime dominated on serves, notching 16 aces against Krajinović's one. Auger-Aliassime will take on Nadal on Monday.

• Sloane Stephens is moving on to the fourth round of the French Open after defeating Diane Parry in straight sets Friday. Stephens entered the tournament unranked. She needed three sets to move past Jule Niemeier in the first round. Stephens then defeated No. 26 Sorana Cirstea in three sets in Round 2. Stephens will take on No. 23 Jil Teichmann in Round 4.

• Alexander Zverev advanced to the fourth round of the French Open with a win over Brandon Nakashima on Friday. Zverev defeated Nakashima in straight sets (7-6, 6-3, 7-6). Zverev, ranked No. 3 heading into the Open, will take on Bernabe Zapata Miralles on Monday. Zapata Miralles upset No. 23-ranked John Isner on Friday.
