Jillian Ludwig, originally from New Jersey, was a student at Belmont University
The college freshman who was shot on Tuesday while walking on a track in Nashville, Tenn., has died from her injuries, the city’s police department said Thursday.
Jillian Ludwig, 18, a student at Belmont University, had been shot Tuesday afternoon while she was walking in Edgehill Community Memorial Gardens Park, the Metro Nashville Police Department said. Police said the bullet was fired from a public housing complex across the street from the house.
Police allege that Shaquille Taylor was shooting at a car and one of the bullets hit Ludwig in the head. Taylor was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and tampering with evidence, according to jail records. His bond is set at $280,000.
In a post Thursday, police said they are discussing modifying the charges against Taylor with the District Attorney’s office following Ludwig's death.
Jail records do not indicate if Taylor has retained an attorney.
Ludwig, originally from New Jersey, had been in “extremely critical condition” before she died during the night Wednesday, police said.
"Jillian is an engaged member of our community who is known for her love of music," Belmont University President Greg Jones said in a statement after the shooting, reported by ABC News. "A music business major and bass player, she is often found at concerts, cheering on fellow musicians and using music as a way to connect with those around her. Jillian is also an avid runner who enjoys being outside."
ABC 7 New York interviewed a family friend, who said Ludwig had played in two bands while at the Lake House Music Academy in Asbury Park, N.J.
