Ten Hag urged to mastermind shock Man Utd swoop for fallen Tottenham star, with move to spark transformation
A former Manchester United player has explained why Erik ten Hag should consider signing an out-of-form Tottenham man this summer, in a move which would certainly leave fans surprised.
The main Tottenham star Man Utd are expected to pursue at the end of the season is Harry Kane. He is on Ten Hag’s three-man striker shortlist to replace loanee Wout Weghorst.
According to a recent update from Calciomercato, Ten Hag’s ideal signing is Napoli star Victor Osimhen. But with Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly sending him a mind-boggling contract offer, Kane might become a more realistic capture for Man Utd.
Surprisingly, ex-Man Utd midfielder Kleberson, who made 30 appearances for the club between 2003 and 2005, has urged Ten Hag to land Richarlison as well.
The 25-year-old is struggling to make an impact during his first Tottenham campaign. He is having to rely mainly on substitute appearances for game time and this is one of the reasons why his scoring record is so poor. He has found the back of the net just twice in 23 matches so far.
Richarlison was given an opportunity at his favoured centre-forward position during Wednesday’s FA Cup clash with Sheffield United. However, he did not cause the Blades defenders any problems and was subsequently taken off in the 65th minute.

Kleberson reckons the former Everton attacker could reignite his career by ditching Spurs after just one season and moving to Man Utd, with Ten Hag the potential catalyst for a complete transformation.
“I’d really like to see Richarlison play for Man Utd,” Kleberson said during a recent interview with OLBG. “He’s the kind of striker that could help United a lot. Especially with teams pressing, he can do a low block, he can put pressure on the centre-back and he can get inside the box.
Pundit lauds Tottenham forward, with Man Utd transfer suggested
“He’s played in the Premier League for many years, he understands the rules and he’s a really hard-working player. As Man Utd get more structure and consistency, winning more games, I think Richarlison is a player who could do a lot for the club.
“When Richarlison was at Everton, I think he should have gone to Man Utd instead of Tottenham. It could have been different.
“Now he doesn’t play much and he doesn’t get many opportunities. He’s competing with guys at Tottenham who are amazing players. He’s on the bench, but he’s competing with these big players.
“As a club, sometimes you need to take a risk because he’s not a bad player, he’s an amazing player. He plays for Brazil’s national team, he just needs game time and some confidence from the coach and the team. I believe he could easily do an amazing job for United.”
Kleberson is clearly a big fan of his compatriot. While Man Utd looked into signing Richarlison during his Everton days, it is unlikely they will move for him now.
Ten Hag will not have seen much this season to convince him that Richarlison is the perfect player to lead his attack. Richarlison’s lack of goals and poor attitude on the pitch will have done him no favours.
Another factor to consider is his potential cost. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is determined not to sell any of his top assets to Premier League rivals. As such, Man Utd would have to spend a huge amount to take the 42-cap international to Old Trafford.
Meanwhile, a mid-season move is possible after Man Utd received multiple offers for Mason Greenwood, as per reports.
