Ten Hag urged to demand change from Man Utd ‘idiot’ who ‘lashes out’ – ‘he’d have destroyed him’
Erik ten Hag has been told that he needs to demand change from Man Utd attacker Antony, who “lashed out” during their recent loss to Brighton.
Antony was one of United’s marquee signings during last summer’s transfer window. He was pursued by Ten Hag for a couple of months and his £85m move from Ajax was completed on deadline day.
The winger has impressed in fits and starts for Man Utd this season as he has grabbed eight goals and two assists in his 41 appearances across all competitions.
But he has come under fire in recent days as United have suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League. They were beaten 1-0 by Brighton and West Ham.
Fifth-placed Liverpool are now breathing down their necks. Jurgen Klopp’s side are one point behind Man Utd having played a game more. The Red Devils need three wins from their last four games to guarantee themselves a spot in the top four.
United were deservedly beaten by Brighton and West Ham. Antony missed chances in both games and he lost his head during the loss at the Amex Stadium. He committed a rash foul on Alexis Mac Allister and the winger subsequently threw himself into an ill-matched clash with Seagulls captain Lewis Dunk.
Ex-Premier League forward Gabby Agbonlahor has now hit out at Antony, who has “got to be frustrated with his own performances”.
“I think he’s a bit of an idiot, to be honest,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.
“There was no need for that tackle on Mac Allister, and then he’s trying to go chest to chest with a giant in Lewis Dunk. He’d have destroyed him.

“Is Antony frustrated with his own performance, and that’s why he’s lashing out?
“He can’t take a player on, he can’t beat a man, he can’t get a shot on goal. He’s got to be frustrated with his own performances this season.
“Ten Hag has got to speak to him about it. He’s got to calm down or he’ll get red cards.
“He’s got to try and become the £86million player he was brought in to be.”
The pundit’s comments come after Ten Hag told Antony that he must “stay focused” during games.
“I think he is special. It [his passion] is his strength. Of course, there’s a certain level, you have to control it. You need passion, desire to win your games and to win medals, and I think he is very strong willed. He’s very ambitious,” Ten Hag explained.
“As I say, don’t go over the top. Stay focused on your game, and what the team needs and doing that he is a great player. His improvement is quite obvious.”
