Man Utd have shifted their focus in the transfer window after missing out on Darwin Nunez to Liverpool, according to reports.

The Uruguay international drew interest from a number of clubs before sealing an £85m transfer to Liverpool this summer, with the Merseysiders selling Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich.

There was speculation that Man Utd were interested too, with the Red Devils reportedly holding last-ditch talks with his agent Jorge Mendes before Nunez signed for Liverpool.

Ten Hag already thinking ‘what am I doing’ at Man Utd; Marsch, Liverpool fans and more mails…

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said in his CaughtOffside column at the time that the Red Devils ‘certainly tried to sign Darwin, and they were still in contact with his agent until Friday, but they considered Nunez a €70m target, not €100m’.

Man Utd need more attackers this summer with Edinson Cavani leaving the club at the end of this month on a free transfer and Mason Greenwood currently suspended.

And now ESPN claims ‘that Ten Hag and football director John Murtough have switched their transfer focus from a striker to a more versatile forward after missing out on Darwin Nunez’.

Meanwhile, former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor thinks it was “naive” for Man Utd chief executive Richard Arnold to speak so openly to a group of fans and not expect them to record him.

Arnold, who replaced Ed Woodward as CEO during last season, let his guard down during a planned meeting in a pub with a group of supporters in which he admitted that the past season had been a “f**king nightmare” and that the club has “f**king burned through cash”.

“Now you have to be careful with what you are saying on text messages, out and about,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider.

“Everyone could sneakily record you so you’ve got to be careful with what you are saying.

“He’s just been caught saying what he feels. It happened to Sam Allardyce, he was recorded. This is the problem.

“But what he said is how he feels. Maybe it’s naive for him to be speaking like that.

“He’s not said anything out of line, it’s the truth. The amount of money they have lost is true. He’s not lied about anything, it’s all pretty standard.”
