Manchester United are in the market for a striker this summer and they are prepared to go head-to-head with Bayern Munich for one of their primary targets.

Since the start of 2023, Erik ten Hag’s side have only scored 25 league goals. For context, this is less than the likes of Tottenham, Brighton and Aston Villa.

Wout Weghorst has given Man Utd another option since his arrival in January, but he has only managed to hit the back of the net twice so far.

As the club seem unlikely to sign the Dutch forward on a permanent basis, United are in need of a couple of forwards in the summer.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani has been a player of interest for quite some time now. The French forward has scored 21 goals in all competitions and is enjoying his most prolific season to date.

According to French outlet RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, the 24-year-old is at the top of Man Utd’s striker wishlist. Given the profile of striker that Ten Hag likes, it’s easy to see why Kolo Muani tops the list.

The French forward is far more than just an out-and-out goalscorer. Along with his impressive goal tally, he has also provided 10 assists in this campaign.

While he has played the majority of the season as a number nine, he can also operate in a more creative role. Given Tag Hag’s fluid system, he could be an ideal fit.

They would have to fend off Bayern Munich to get a deal done though. The German champions are also in need of a number nine and Kolo Muani is rated highly at the club.

Move for Kolo Muani makes sense

There’s no doubt that Man Utd will have to spend big this summer to sign a striker, but Kolo Muani might just be the best value for money they can find.

Reports have suggested that Frankfurt will accept bids of around €100m (£88m) for their prized asset. While this does seem expensive, it is cheaper than the likes of Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen would cost.

While Kane only has one more year left on his contract at Tottenham, Daniel Levy would still drive a hard bargain, especially if selling to a Premier League rival.

Osimhen on the other hand would likely be the most expensive of all. He is contracted with Napoli until 2025 and they are in no rush to sell.

The Italian club are likely to demand a fee well in excess of £100million to even consider letting him go. With 27 goals in all competitions, it’s easy to see why they value him so highly.

Along with signing a striker, Ten Hag will also be keen on strengthening a few other areas. The goalkeeping situation remains up for debate and they are keen on signing another defender.

As long as Man Utd finish in the top four, the lure of Champions League football next season should help them in the recruitment process.
