A teenager was left scarred for life after he was glassed by a man who thought he was involved in sharing topless photos of his girlfriend.

Arron Kmiotek, 23, knew the 19-year-old from school and thought he was friends with someone who had shared the photos of his girlfriend.

He smashed an empty pint glass in the teen's face at at a social club in Bircotes, Nottinghamshire, in November 2018, leaving him with deep cuts to his cheek, nose and right upper eyelid.

Kmiotek, of Mirabelle Way, Harworth, has been jailed for two-and-a-half years at Nottingham Crown Court after pleading guilty to wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The court heard that on the day of the attack, Kmiotek’s girlfriend accused a man of distributing topless images of her – which had been taken from Kmiotek's mobile phone when it was hacked by work colleagues – without her permission.

She threw a glass of lager over him, prompting bar staff to ask him to leave.

As he challenged bar staff on why the girl hadn't been asked to leave, he was attacked by Kmiotek.

The injuries to his face required treatment by specialist surgeons, including 30 stitches, and doctors have told him he will be scarred for life.

Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Michael Booth, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The was a cowardly attack and it is lucky the victim is not blind as a result of Kmiotek’s inexcusable actions. He will, however, have to carry the scars of this totally unprovoked assault for the rest of his life.

"I am pleased that justice has been done and hope this sentencing will bring some degree of relief to the victim.

"I also think this case should serve as a warning to other people about the serious consequences to being a perpetrator of violence.

"Kmiotek’s actions were entirely unacceptable and such behaviour will never be tolerated in Nottinghamshire."
