Tech Workers Protest in Minsk Following Presidential Election

IT employees protested outside Minsk’s Hi-Tech Park in Belarus on August 14, as demonstrations continued for the sixth day following the re-election of President Alexander Lukashenko on Sunday.

Footage posted to Instagram by Yanina Taraskevich shows protesters sitting outside the HTP sign next to the Minsk Beltway. Many were wearing white and some held flowers and Belarusian flags. Some protesters also held computer keyboards, Tut.by reported.

Anti-government protests ignited after President Lukashenko was re-elected for a sixth term. He has been in power since 1994.

The main opposition candidate, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, claimed the vote was rigged.
