All of Taylor Swift's Met Gala Looks Through the Years
Take a look back at the singer's Met Gala evolution, from her debut in 2008 to her Reputation-coded Louis Vuitton dress in 2016
Taylor Swift has a big reputation when it comes to fashion, and her Met Gala appearances are no different.
The "Cruel Summer" singer first attended the event back in 2008 and has graced us with some memorable appearances since then. Each year, she has brought her signature style to the red carpet while still adhering to the year's theme.
In 2010, she donned a classic white gown for "American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity," while putting her own personal touches on the look with her classic red lip. In 2016, when she co-chaired the "Manus et Machina" themed event, she teased her new music era in a snakeskin-like Louis Vuitton mini.
Though Swift hasn't graced the red carpet in a few years (and doesn't appear to be attending this year due to the demands of her Eras Tour), her Met Gala moments will never go out of style.
Look back at her best looks ahead.
Taylor Swift's Badgley Mischka Dress at the 2008 Met Gala
As Swift moved into her Fearless era in 2008, we saw her wear many more gold dresses on the stage and red carpet. So it's only fitting that she wore this shimmering Badgley Mischka gold-and-bronze ombré gown for her very first Met Gala that year. Gilded accessories and her then-signature tight curls completed the look.
Taylor Swift's Ralph Lauren Collection Dress at the 2010 Met Gala
Swifties can instantly tell she's in her Speak Now era in this romantic Ralph Lauren Collection gown in 2010 thanks to her faux bob, red lipstick and dramatic cat eyeliner, all hallmarks of her style at the time.
Taylor Swift's J. Mendel Dress at the 2011 Met Gala
The following year, Swift leaned into something more daring for the theme "Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty." Alongside some sultry makeup, including a maroon lip and smudged eyeliner, she wore a J. Mendel gown with lace accents. However, the long train proved to be a little difficult as she walked the red carpet, commenting, "It's a little difficult with the train. But I've experienced worse."
Taylor Swift's J. Mendel Dress at the 2013 Met Gala
Swift embraced the theme "Punk: Chaos to Couture in 2013" going full-force with her beauty, including crimped hair and smoky eyes. Textured golden accents and beaded shoulders gave additional edge to her black J. Mendel gown.
Taylor Swift's Oscar de la Renta Dress at the 2014 Met Gala
Swift's Oscar de la Renta gown certainly goes down as one of her most memorable Met Gala looks. In fact, she even recreated it for her iconic "Look What You Made Me Do" music video as she buried the "old Taylor." Vintage-inspired hair and makeup were the perfect complement to the Old Hollywood-esque dress.
This look also came with a memorable story, which she shared that night. "I've never seen more fashionable people lose their composure quicker than when a cat walks up to a satin, custom Oscar de la Renta dress and then decides to make a home inside of it," she told PEOPLE of the fraught moment when her cat Meredith "passed, dug her claws in and started to roll … like when you see a crocodile attack an antelope on National Geographic."
Taylor Swift's Louis Vuitton Dress at the 2016 Met Gala
Swift co-chaired the event in 2016 alongside Jonathan Ive, Anna Wintour and Idris Elba, sporting her newly bleach-blonde hair, a metallic Louis Vuitton mini and cutout boots. When Swift released Reputation the following year, many thought this look could have teased her new era — and certainly, several references to that night made it into songs including "Getaway Car" and "Dress."
