Taylor Swift will be the subject of a new documentary called “Taylor Swift: Miss Americana” that Netflix will release in early 2020, the streamer announced Wednesday.

News of the documentary film first came as part of the lineup for the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, where the movie will make its world premiere in January, before landing on the streamer in early 2020.

Lana Wilson (“After Tiller,” “The Departure”) is directing the film from producers Morgan Neville, Caitrin Rogers and Christine O’Malley. “Miss Americana” is a Tremolo Production. Here’s the documentary’s synopsis:

“Taylor Swift: Miss Americana” is a raw and emotionally revealing look at one of the most iconic artists of our time during a transformational period in her life as she learns to embrace her role not only as a songwriter and performer, but as a woman harnessing the full power of her voice.

One question surrounding the documentary was whether the film would feature Swift’s old music, as her songs from her first six albums have been the subject of a public feud between Swift and Scooter Braun, who owns Big Machine Label Group and the rights to her old music

Swift surrendered ownership of her masters when she left Big Machine for a new deal at Republic Records ahead of her latest album, “Lover,” which was released earlier this year. Under the current arrangement, Swift is forbidden to re-record any of her old hits until 2020, and she further said that she was barred from using the songs in the documentary film or from performing a medley of her songs at the recent American Music Awards, though she ultimately did.

Swift, who accused Braun of orchestrating her public 2016 feud with Kanye West, wrote in a July Tumblr post that she felt “sad and grossed out” about the sale of her recordings to Braun. In November, Braun wrote in an Instagram post that he received death threats to his family from Swift fans and hoped to sit down and reach a solution.
