Taylor Fritz, Morgan Riddle and Alexander ZverevThe tennis world was in a frenzy following a series of now-deleted Instagram Stories from Morgan Riddle, the girlfriend of tennis player Taylor Fritz, that many believed were aimed at fellow tennis star Alexander Zverev — and now, Riddle is clarifying that it was all a misunderstanding.
The initial posts, which included videos of Riddle cheering on Fritz as he beat Zverev at Wimbledon on Monday, July 8, were coupled with captions that read, “When ur mans wins for the girls,” and “Cheer loud ladies.” Tennis fans believed Riddle was specifically getting women to cheer against Zverev due to earlier accusations that he had assaulted his former girlfriend. Zverev has denied the allegations and a trial was settled out of court in June 2024.
Following the immediate online uproar, Riddle posted a lengthy explanation to her Instagram story insisting that her posts were not what they seemed.
Riddle began the post, writing, “Regarding my stories yesterday… I took them down as soon as I realized the misunderstanding and how blown out of proportion they had become by the media.”
“They were not about anything that’s happened off the tennis court & there’s no bad blood between anyone,” she added.

Following Fritz’s victory over Zverev, the two exchanged a handshake as usual, but their lengthy interaction had fans speculating about what happened.
Speaking with the press afterwards, Zverev said that he didn’t appreciate Fritz’s fans overly cheering for him during the match, saying “they were a bit over the top,” according to the New York Post.

Alexander ZverevAs for Fritz, in addition to enjoying his Wimbledon win, he made it clear during his press conference that it was fair for Zverev to express his frustration over the cheering.
“He’s totally allowed to be annoyed if they were being annoying. … That’s one of the things I asked him at the net, ‘Who was it?,’ ” Fritz said, per the Associated Press, before adding, “It’s not a big thing. It’s all good.”
