In September, HGTV's Tarek El Moussa and Selling Sunset's Heather Rae Young officially became the owners of their very first house in Newport Beach, California. While a buying a house isn't uncommon for a soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs, this purchase wasn't actually planned. As a rep for the couple previously told to People,"Tarek originally bought it as a flip but then they decided to make it their new home." That being said, this is the couple’s first renovation together and they’ve already hit a major snag.
Yesterday, El Moussa took to Instagram to share both some good and bad news. The high of his day was that he had just filmed another new episode for Flipping 101 with Young. But on the contrary, "our new home flooded," he shared. "We are now way behind schedule and way over budget."
Young also took to her Instagram Stories alongside El Moussa to show fans inside the remains of their home. "Our house flooded from the rain, it was not covered up properly,” she said into the camera. "All the water flooded through. We had to rip out the ceiling, the kitchen, and also the floor in the laundry room... and also a bunch of other stuff," she said. She also revealed that the roof was gone.
Despite, the major drawback, El Moussa is staying positive. "Over the years I’ve learned...when life gives you lemons you smile and make margaritas! I’m not letting this one get me down," he wrote in the caption of his Instagram post.
The couple currently resides in a rental house also located in Newport Beach, which they moved into back in April. They never intended to get too comfortable there. "This is our in-between house until we build or find the perfect house," El Moussa told People at the time.
Details have not yet been revealed concerning their renovation timeline and/or when they plan to move into the new home, however, due to flood damage, it's probably going to be awhile until they can call if home. However, if we know anything about El Moussa, he is a problem solver.
