Taliban rescues locals stranded in raging floods in south Afghanistan
The Taliban rescued locals stranded in raging floods that hit south Afghanistan on Monday, January 3. The driver and his passengers were trapped when the deluge caused by heavy rain smashed into their car and flipped it over in the Maiwand district of Kandahar. Footage from a Taliban supporter shows how the military helicopter hovered over the vehicle before airlifting those trapped inside to safety. They praised the actions of the soldiers. Another clip taken in the same province shows a Taliban crane towing cars that had stalled in the water to safety while the occupants sat on the rescue vehicle. Local media reported that part of the Herat-Kandahar highway had been closed as rains inundated several other districts in Kandahar.
