Syamsul Yusof unperturbed by criticisms against "Mat Kilau"

20 Sep – Syamsul Yusof recently stated that he is not at all affected by the criticisms about his movie, "Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan".

The filmmaker, whose film was released on Netflix on Malaysia Day on 16 September, stated that the most important thing is that there are people who enjoyed the movie and who shared their excitement about the movie.

"I've made movies for a long time and I am used to it. I am just grateful that a majority of people love it. As a filmmaker, you can't be complacent. You have to keep improving yourself," he said.

"When it was shown on Netflix, thank God, the response was very good, amazing even. Every day I receive DMs, messages from fans all over the world. Some are from Germany, Saudi Arabia, Australia, the United States, all of them congratulating the team."

It is noted that the film suddenly received a flood of negative reviews from people who either watched it for the first time or from those who found flaws when it is no longer being seen from the viewpoint of the big screen.

Syamsul also added that the success of the film has brought upon more opportunities for him, especially internationally, and therefore he is grateful.
