This week on The Braid Up, we’re switching things up for you. Don’t worry—we’re still going to serve you a fire look. We’re giving you a braided option that you can pair with your natural curls. Stasha, our braiding guru, calls this look “two braids with defined curls.” It consists of two cornrows down the center of your head and your natural curls in all their glory. It’s pretty much the perfect look if you’ve just done back-to-back protective styles and you want to give your scalp a break for a bit.

Down to recreate the style? Here’s everything you need to know.

1. Deep-condition your hair before you begin. Making sure your hair is properly hydrated is super important—you want to start out with a healthy foundation so your hair can grow, not break.

2. Slap a large amount of edge control on the back of your hand. This is more of a tip for your braider, but it’ll give them easy access to the edge control (aka the best product you can use to keep your parts extra sleek).

3. Spritz your hair with a detangling spray. And then comb through your curls to break up any knots while also adding smoothness, moisture, and shine.

4. Using a crochet needle, weave in a silver thread through the braids. This is a super-cute way to add some ~flair~ to your look.
