Swifties Demand Lawsuit Over ‘Cringe’ Lara Trump Video
A cringe-inducing video featuring Lara Trump dancing to a remixed Taylor Swift song has earned Donald Trump’s campaign ridicule and prompted calls for the pop superstar to sue over the track’s use.
Posted to the Trump campaign’s official account Thursday, the clip features a bevy of women supporters of the GOP nominee—including the former president’s daughter-in-law, his adviser Lynne Patton, and sports journalist Sage Steele. The group, all decked out in hot-pink jackets with Trump logos, bob their heads and awkwardly gesture along to an edited version of Swift’s 2012 hit “22.”
“I don’t know about you but I’m,” the remix begins, in Swift’s voice, before cutting to a man saying, “voting Donald Trump, baby.”
Some viewers of the video were less than impressed with the group’s dance moves and fashion choices.
“They are all so cringe,” wrote user @lflorepolitics on X.
“This looks like a really bad girl group video from 1989,” user @MzBehavn73 added.
And taking aim at the audacious jackets, user @ReedStrong2020 wrote, “This looks like a commercial for Pepto Bismol.”
While the clip earned criticism for its toe-curling qualities, many viewers also expressed shock that it used a song from Swift, who is an avowed anti-Trumper. A number went as far as to suggest that Swift should take legal action.
“They are just begging for a cease and desist,” wrote @AMS2Dad.
“Sue Sue Sue,” urged @GreeneyOfficial.
In the wake of the presidential debate in early September, Swift publicly endorsed Trump’s Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election,” she wrote on Instagram then. “I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Days later, Trump would take to Truth Social to express his dismay with the highly influential pop star. He minced no words, writing: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
