It wouldn't be a brand new season of The Umbrella Academy without some brand new foes. While our favorite band of superheroes are trapped in the 1960s, a group of brothers have followed them to try to take them down no matter the cost. Not only do they need to survive in a brand new decade and stop an apocalypse, they also have to fight against these crazy guys who seem to appear at every turn. So who are these mysterious assassins that are after them? And why are they even chasing The Umbrella Academy in the first place?

What's The Swedes' story?

The Swedes are a group of triplet brothers that work for The Commission. Due to The Umbrella Academy's original interference in the timeline, they are sent to take them out and stop them from causing any more damage. When Five goes back in time with Hazel to try to stop the apocalypse in the 1960s, they end up killing Hazel in the process, leaving Five with no information on what is going to happen and where his family is. They try to murder Five too, but are unsuccessful.

Later they are seen staking out outside Allison's house and they try to kill Vanya in the corn field, but she stops them before they can get to her. The Swedes follow Diego, Lila, and Five at the Mexican consulate and they start a fight that ends up with the Umbrella Academy successfully escaping. While on her mission to take down The Umbrella Academy, The Handler sends The Swedes a fake capsule telling them to go after Diego with a special set of coordinates. While following the directions that were given to them, they end up falling into a trap that kills one of them and, using the knife that Lila previously gave The Handler, Diego is set up as the one who killed him.

They end up going to Elliot's place to try to kill Diego, but they instead find him alone. Trying to get information, they torture Elliot and leave a note saying that it was revenge for their dead brother. The Umbrella Academy are confused over the message since they had nothing to do with his death. They later go to Allison's house and try to attack her as well. However, she uses her rumor ability to force one of them to kill the other, leaving one last Swede left.

Back at the house, the last Swede notices that the capsule was fake and realizes that The Handler was sending them on fake missions, which caused his brothers' deaths. He decides to get revenge on The Handler instead of The Umbrella Academy.

In the finale battle, he appears towards the end and kills The Handler after she shoots The Umbrella Academy. Five uses his new ability to turn back time to reset the last few seconds and save his family. The Swede comes back in like the first time and kills The Handler for good. Turning to Five, the two agree on a truce and he walks away. In the end, it's revealed that he joined Klaus' former cult when the bus drives by, giving him a new life in the 60s away from The Commission.
