  • Palace officials say they had nothing to do with the song choice at Prince Harry’s event yesterday.

  • The song in question included lyrics that said, “I’d like to leave the country.”

So, erm, remember yesterday when Prince Harry showed up at Buckingham Palace for a rugby engagement and low-key laughed at the Royal Rota when asked about his future plans? Good times, good times. Well, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Instagram account went ahead and uploaded a video from the event to Stories, and fans were quick to notice that the song used had some pretty telling lyrics.

Kay, so the song in question is “This Is the One” by Stone Roses, which features the lyric “I’d like to leave the country for a month of Sundays.” Truly, yikes—but to be fair, this particular line from the song didn’t make the cut of their video.

Regardless, people are reading right TF into this, but according to Daily Mail, Harry had zero input in the song and “furious Buckingham Palace officials” say it was completely the choice of the event organizers. In other words, they’d very much like to be removed from this narrative.

As a reminder, Harry and Meghan recently made a bombshell announcement that they’d be stepping back from senior royal duties and splitting their time between North America (specifically Canada) and the United Kingdom. Meghan is currently on Vancouver Island while Harry remains in the United Kingdom to iron out the specifics of their transitional period, which has the full support of the queen. Her Majesty released a statement, saying:

“Today my family had very constructive discussions on the future of my grandson and his family. My family and I are entirely supportive of Harry and Meghan’s desire to create a new life as a young family. Although we would have preferred them to remain full-time working Members of the Royal Family, we respect and understand their wish to live a more independent life as a family while remaining a valued part of my family. Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives. It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK. These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days.”
