Surfer Shreds Maui's Massive Peahi 'Jaws' Break

Surfer Francisco Porcella took on a massive wave at the Peahi break, nicknamed “Jaws,” in Maui, Hawaii, on Saturday, January 16.

According to photographer Randy Sarrow of Blue Wave Maui Photography, the wave Porcella rode was over 50 feet tall.

Hawaii.com says Jaws produces waves of up to 70 feet and 30 mph between November and March. Peahi means wave – as in to beckon – in the Hawaiian language and the extreme conditions attract professional athletes keen to take on the challenge each year.
