California resident Jared Henry captured video of the moment he rode glowing bioluminescent waves while surfing in Oceanside, on April 28. The video shows the surfer riding the electric blue water.
Henry told Storyful he captured the video on his GoPro and described the moment as “one of the coolest experiences ever!”
Bioluminescent waves, caused by microscopic algae called dinoflagellates that release blue chemicals that glow when irritated, have been putting on a show for Californians. The bloom started in late March 2020 and is particularly large in size, according to the University of California San Diego. Credit: Jared Henry via Storyful
